A Hyattsville, Maryland police officer rescued an injured person from a burning SUV after a crash back in mid-January, according to a statement early Thursday morning.

Video from the Jan. 19 incident on the 6100 block of Queens Chapel Road showed Corporal Kelly Hernandez pulling the driver out of the vehicle after the driver said their leg was broken. Police were initially called for reports of a vehicle rollover.

The video also showed massive flames pouring out of the front engine compartment of the vehicle during the rescue.

"This is the type of incident officers face while protecting our community," Hyattsville police officials said in a statement. "We are incredibly proud of Cpl. Hernandez's quick thinking and the other first responders who showed up to assist."
