Columbus Cops Save Woman Who Jumped Into Freezing River
A distraught woman who jumped into the Scioto River was pulled to safety by officers.
Police arrived to find the woman hanging onto the ledge of a platform overlooking the river. The woman told the responding officer that she was distraught over issues in her life and that everyone had given up on her.
Then, she jumped into the cold water below.
“Officers involved in the rescue were commended for their quick actions to pull a woman to safety after she jumped into the Scioto River while in the middle of a mental health crisis,” CPD said. “Within minutes of being dispatched, officers worked together to use a rescue rope and waded into the freezing water to drag the woman to shore.”
She was treated by medical personnel on the scene. She was taken to a local hospital by the Columbus Fire Department for evaluation. Her current status is unknown.
Three officers who jumped into the water were also treated on the scene.
