A habitual drunk driver arrested by Flagler deputies after nearly causing a head-on collision
On Sunday night, FCSO Dispatch received a report of a black Mercedes that had briefly traveled into the wrong lane and nearly caused a head-on collision. FCSO deputies located the vehicle at Old Kings Rd and State Road 100 and attempted a traffic stop; however, the vehicle did not stop until it had reached AdventHealth-Palm Coast and parked near the Emergency Room.
The driver was identified as Michael Alfonso, 48, a habitual drunk driver. Alfonso was uncooperative and appeared extremely intoxicated, so he was taken to the emergency room in a wheelchair from the traffic stop to be checked for any medical conditions by deputies.
Alfonso was arrested for Felony D.U.I. (4th D.U.I. – 3 Prior Convictions) and 2 counts of Failure to Obey Law Enforcement. He is being held at the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility on $26,000 bond.
