Jonesboro officer rescues boy from frozen pond in body cam footage
An Arkansas police officer faced the freezing temperatures and managed to save a child from drowning in a frozen pond, KAIT reports.
According to the incident report, crews responded to a call around 10 a.m. Saturday, about a child falling through ice on a pond at the Gladiola Estates in Jonesboro.
Body camera footage from the Jonesboro Police Department shows Officer Troy Ellison jumping into action when he first arrived at the scene.
The child was barely holding onto the edge of the ice when Ellison arrived. He can be heard crying and asking for his parents in the body cam footage.
Ellison “crawled onto the ice and pulled the child to safety with the help of Lt. Shon Morris and members of the Jonesboro Fire Department,” wrote officials on Facebook.
The child was taken to the hospital to be checked out for injuries due to the weather, but he is expected to be OK.
Police advised people to be mindful that no matter how cold it gets, playing on ice is never safe.
