Alachua County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a man who held a kitchen knife to his throat
The Alachua County Sheriff’s Office released video of a traffic stop when deputies arrested a man who held a kitchen knife to his throat.
According to the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office, Justin Charles Turner, 39, was reported as missing and endangered, and possibly suicidal.
On Tuesday, Deputies located Turner south of Waldo on NW US Highway 301 and conducted a traffic stop.
When Turner exited the vehicle, he held a large kitchen knife to his chest and throat.
After members of the Negotiations Response Team arrived, Turner refused to comply and ignored numerous verbal commands to drop the knife. Deputies deployed a less-than-lethal device because of his ignorance, which caused Turner to drop the knife.
Turner was arrested and received immediate medical attention before being transported to the hospital.
“I want to commend all the deputies on their extraordinary patience and for relyingon their training throughout the roughly 30-minute period,” Sheriff Emery Gainey said. “Each of you did an exemplary job at coordinating and de-escalating the incident to produce a favorable outcome for this event.”
Turner was booked into the Alachua County Jail for resisting without violence and has pending charges for felony domestic battery and felony child abuse from Pinellas County.
