19-year-old leads Marion deputies on a 115mph police chase before crashing into a tree
A 19-year-old was arrested in Marion County after deputies say he was driving at more than 100 mph in an attempt to flee a traffic stop.
It happened on Nov. 26 around 11 p.m. when two deputies witnessed a vehicle traveling 71 mph in a 45 mph zone in the area of Southeast 58th Avenue and Larch Road.
When the deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop, the driver, later identified as 19-year-old Johnathan Brooks, fled at a high rate of speed.
"Brooks reached speeds over 100 mph as he attempted to elude deputies," the Marion County Sheriff's Office said.
The deputies followed and witnessed Brooks reach a speed of around 115 mph before he failed to stop at an intersection, crossed over Southeast 110th Street and struck a large tree, MCSO said.
Brooks and a passenger were injured in the crash.
Marion County Fire Rescue responded to assist with extrication, after which Brooks and the passenger were transported to a local hospital for treatment, MCSO said.
Brooks was arrested for fleeing to elude a law enforcement officer with disregard for safety, causing serious injury.
