Bodycam shows suspect who was reached for gun being fatally shot by San Antonio police
Body-cam footage released Wednesday by the San Antonio Police Department shed new light on a fatal shooting that took place in early March on the city's East Side. As Fox San Antonio reported, the video captured the intense moments when two officers, Juan Dominguez and James Quintanilla, both veterans on the force for more than a decade, opened fire on suspect Raymond Mireles, 35, resulting in his death.
The clip depicts the suspect, wanted on two aggravated robbery warrants, exiting a residence at the 2800 block of Ravina Drive, when officers, who had been conducting surveillance for hours, approached in an unmarked van. An officer noticed Mireles reaching for a gun, and despite verbal commands, he continued to reach for the weapon in his waistband. According to KSAT, Mireles was then shot multiple times.
The confrontation escalated rapidly after Mireles allegedly pointed a weapon at officers during the operation. Detailed in the KSAT-reported video, an officer can be heard shouting, "Let me see your f***ing hands. Let me see your hands," before discharging their firearm. Despite initial reports, the video confirmed that Mireles did not fire his weapon at police.
After the shooting, officers rendered lifesaving aid to Mireles before he was transported to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. Recovered at the scene was Mireles' loaded handgun. In a previous stint with the law, detailed by Fox San Antonio, Mireles served time for unauthorized use of a vehicle among other charges but was back on the streets having completed his sentence just over a year before the deadly encounter. No officers or civilians sustained injuries during the incident currently under review by the District Attorney's Office.
