Body cam shows Kalamazoo officers rescue man trapped under van
By: Bodycam footage captured the moments when police officers lifted a vehicle off a man trapped underneath who had gone into cardiac arrest.
Kalamazoo Public Safety say the incident happened at a home on Hutchinson Street around 7 p.m. on Saturday, April 15. The 50-year-old man had been working on his neighbor's van when the van fell off the jack, pinning the man underneath.
While the man was initially able to speak with responding officers, the weight of the van caused him to go into cardiac arrest.
Four officers quickly worked to lift the van off the man, while another officer pulled him from underneath. He had stopped breathing and did not have a pulse. Officers dragged him to safety and administered CPR, which reestablished the man's pulse.
Police say he was under the vehicle for about 10 minutes.
Kalamazoo Public Safety posted a video of the rescue on their Facebook page, saying, "Let's give a hand to these officers for acting quickly under pressure!"
