Domestic dispute leads to pursuit and vehicle fire in Marion County
-----
What was originally supposed to be a domestic dispute call for the Marion County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) ended in a fiery pursuit.
MCSO posted a video from the responding deputy’s dashcam on Facebook that captured the pursuit as it happened.
Deputies were dispatched to a domestic dispute call in the early hours of Friday, September 20, at a Murphy Gas Station on SW Highway 200. They say the dispute involved a gold Chevrolet Trailblazer.
Deputies with MCSO located the Chevy behind the gas station.
Dashcam footage from the responding deputy shows that the driver, later identified as Derick Rouse, was not stopping for deputies.
Rouse instead took off and drove through an IHOP parking lot where he ran a stop sign before returning to Highway 200, as seen on camera footage.
The responding deputy stays hot on the driver’s tail as the pursuit picked up pace on Highway 200.
MCSO backup deputies arrive as Rouse turns into the lot of a Circle K gas station, then back out again on the highway.
The dashcam footage shows a large amount of smoke coming from the back of the Trailblazer as it begins to pick up speed.
The video then cuts to a point of the pursuit when Rouse runs a red light.
The car is then seen spewing smoke before it catches fire.
Rouse stops the car before jumping out and sprawling on the ground, surrendering himself to deputies.
“Keep your hands up,” deputies shouted as they slapped the handcuffs on Rouse.
Deputies arrested Rouse and took him to the Marion County Jail.
Rouse is charged with:
* Eluding an Officer with Lights and Sirens Active (Felony charge – one count)
* Operating a Motor Vehicle Without a Valid License (Misdemeanor charge – one count)
He has a bond of $4500 and a court date scheduled for October 22 at 9 a.m.
