Dash and body cam shows two people reversing a stolen car and driving toward Santa Clara police
Two people were arrested in Santa Clara after they were accused of sitting in a stolen vehicle and reversing it in the direction of detectives.
According to police, officers with the department’s Special Enforcement Team found the two suspects sitting inside a stolen car in the 1200 block of Lincoln Street on Jan. 31. When the officers tried to arrest the two suspects, the driver reversed the car and drove toward the police, according to authorities. In response, one of the officers then fired their weapon, but no one was hit, police said in a news release.
The two suspects then sped away in the car, but crashed into the carport of a building nearby, police said. They got out of the car and ran off on foot, but were caught by officers not far from the car, according to police.
Police later identified the suspects as Art Torres, 50, and Dominique Dotson-Cabrera, 36, both from San Jose. Torres was driving the car at the time, and both had outstanding warrants at the time of their arrest, police said.
The two suspects were booked into the Santa Clara County Jail on suspicion of possession of a stolen vehicle and restricting or obstructing a police officer. Torres also faces a charge of assault with a deadly weapon.
