Riverside deputies tase and fatally shot a knife wielding suspect in Norco
A Riverside County sheriff’s deputy shot and killed a person approaching deputies while holding a knife in Norco on Thursday, Feb. 8, the department said.
Deputies were dispatched to near Hamner Avenue and 6th Street regarding a person with a knife around 6 p.m., a sheriff’s news release said.
Deputies ordered the person to drop the knife, but he failed to follow their commands, the release said.
On Friday, Sgt. Deirdre Vickers, a sheriff’s spokeswoman, said deputies attempted to stop the suspect by disabling him with a Taser.
“However, it was not effective, and the suspect was able to continue his advance on our deputy while armed with a knife,” Vickers said.
That’s when the deputy fired, striking the suspect.
