Suspect Tries Pond Hideout from Police Pursuit, Stopped by Lack of Swimming Skills
In an incident near Pasco Street and Orange Avenue, the joint aviation unit Air-1, operated by the Tallahassee Police Department (TPD) and Leon County Sheriff's Office (LCSO), played a pivotal role in locating and apprehending a suspect attempting to evade law enforcement. The event unfolded when officers were alerted to a stolen vehicle in the vicinity.
The suspect, quick to flee, abandoned the vehicle near Bragg Drive, disappearing into the nearby woods. Thanks to a collaborative effort with the Leon County Sheriff's Office, a K9 track was initiated. Air-1, the aerial unit, proved instrumental in guiding officers to the suspect's location.
To everyone's surprise, the suspect had sought refuge in a pond, submerged with only his head above water to breathe, effectively concealing himself from officers' view.
Despite the challenging circumstances, the collaborative efforts of the K9 team, Air-1, and ground officers ensured the safe apprehension of the concealed suspect.
The suspect has been charged accordingly, highlighting the effectiveness of teamwork and resourceful coordination in upholding community safety.
