Douglas County Sheriff’s release video of a suspect ramming, shooting at, and fleeing from deputies
-----
At 2:38 this morning, Douglas County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a call of a burglary in progress at a salvage yard in the 8300 block of Blakeland Drive in Littleton. Deputies set up a perimeter. The suspect, identified as 29-year-old Brenton Zeiler, of Aurora, allegedly rammed a deputy’s patrol car in an attempt to get away. It was later determined Zeiler was driving a stolen Toyota Tundra.
Deputies began a pursuit of the suspect, who allegedly fired shots at deputies and Englewood police officers who joined the pursuit. The suspect crashed near Village Greens Park in Greenwood Village and was taken into custody. One deputy was evaluated at the hospital after his patrol car was rammed. He has been released and expected to make a full recovery.
“If you shoot at or try to harm our law enforcement officers, we will catch you. This video shows the dangers our deputies face and the dedication they have to protecting the residents of Douglas County. I am proud they stayed in the fight, despite being shot at and rammed. Criminals won’t get away with this type of behavior in Douglas County. I would like to thank the Englewood Police Department, Cherry Hills Police Department, Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office, and the Greenwood Village Police Department.”
The suspect is facing charges of attempted first degree murder of a peace officer, motor vehicle theft, reckless endangerment, vehicular assault, resisting arrest, obstructing a peace officer, vehicular eluding, 2nd degree burglary, and criminal mischief.
