A tense confrontation unfolded on Saturday afternoon when a local man was arrested after allegedly vandalizing multiple vehicles and engaging in a hostile encounter with law enforcement.

According to South Pasadena Police Department reports, officers responded to the 1400 block of Huntington Drive around 2:20 pm on November 16, 2024, after reports of vehicle vandalism. Witnesses reported that a male suspect had systematically shattered windows of four parked vehicles in the area.

Police located the suspect, identified as 28-year-old Norberto Sanchez, who is reportedly unhoused, in the 1900 block of Marengo Avenue. The situation quickly escalated when officers attempted to make contact with him. Sanchez reportedly became agitated and began throwing objects at responding officers, including bottles of alcohol and large landscape rocks.

During the confrontation, one rock struck the windshield of an arriving patrol vehicle, causing damage. Officers responded by deploying less-lethal devices to subdue the suspect. After a brief standoff, Sanchez eventually surrendered and was taken into custody without further physical altercation.

No injuries were reported for either the officers or the suspect. Sanchez was arrested on charges of assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer and felony vandalism. He was subsequently transported to Alhambra City Jail for processing.
