Bodycam shows Coconino County deputy punching handcuffed woman twice in the face
A Coconino County Sheriff's Office deputy is under investigation after a body-worn camera captured them striking a handcuffed suspect.
The incident involved three suspects who were being detained on March 13 near Flagstaff for trespassing and other misdemeanor charges.
As one of the suspects was being taken into custody, a deputy struck the handcuffed individual twice in the face with their fist before a sergeant intervened. The suspect had allegedly briefly pulled away before they were hit, the sheriff's office said.
CCSO released an eight-second portion of the camera footage that captured the incident.
"You don't need to hit her," someone can be heard shouting during the clip.
The handcuffed suspect sustained a minor injury during the altercation.
The sheriff's office said they have asked Flagstaff police to conduct a criminal investigation into the deputy's conduct, and the deputy has been placed on administrative leave.
