Armed robbery suspects arrested after gun shots in the area
As part of the Atlanta Police Department’s efforts to address park safety, Atlanta Police Officers were patrolling the area around Selena S. Butler Park during the early morning hours of Saturday, August 6, 2022. While there, they heard multiple gunshots from nearby. Moments later, they observed a vehicle speeding from the area where the gunshots were heard.
The vehicle ran a red light before officers were able to get in place and conduct a traffic stop. As officers approached the vehicle to speak with the driver, they observed a rifle on the rear floorboard of the car. The driver advised he was driving fast due to one of his tires being flat.
Not long after stopping the vehicle, another vehicle approached the officers.
The driver of that vehicle advised he had just been robbed at gunpoint and as a result, he fired his weapon at the robbery suspects. The robbery victim described the suspect and officers noted the passenger matched the description.
Officers detained both occupants of the suspect vehicle and continued their investigation. Ultimately, officers determined the passenger in the vehicle was the male who had attempted to rob the victim. Both males were charged with Aggravated Assault with Intent to Rob.
APD officers are diligent about public safety and are trained to pay attention to details. Their awareness during this traffic stop resulted in two armed and dangerous suspects being removed from our streets. We applaud our officers’ professionalism and focus as they safely handled this potentially volatile situation. Job well done!
