Dashcam video of man taking off from traffic stop with Taylorville police officer in car
By: A man is in police custody after taking off from a traffic stop with an officer still partially inside his car.
Police said they stopped Eric C. Handegan, but he was uncooperative and aggressive. Officers tried to tase Handegan, but that did not affect him. Another officer tried to pull the keys from the ignition from, but Handegan sped away first.
The officer was able to escape from the car uninjured. Police said they did not chase after the fleeing suspect to keep the officers safe. They also had already identified Handegan.
Officer were able to coordinate to take Handegan into custody without incident the next day. He was arrested for Aggravated Fleeing and Eluding, Aggravated Assault on a Peace Officer, Resisting Arrest, and Criminal Damage to property
