Body cam video shows Lake County deputies arrest Orange County deputy after he flees on a motorcycle
An Orange County deputy was arrested in Lake County on Wednesday night, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputy Juan Morales-Padilla was arrested by Lake County deputies for fleeing, eluding and resisting an officer without violence.
In dashcam video provided by the sheriff's office, a motorcyclist can be seen speeding down the road as a Lake County deputy attempts a traffic stop.
A car was moving too slow for the motorcycle, so the motorcycle zipped into the median, the turn lane, to get around the car and then took off.
That gave the Lake County sheriff's deputy a powerful need to talk to the man on the motorcycle. However, the motorcycle didn't stop, even when the deputy had blue lights flashing.
In the video, the motorcyclist keeps going until he is out of sight, and the deputy calls for backup.
The deputy ran the man's tag, got his address, and found the motorcyclist at home in the Groveland area.
They eventually arrested Morales-Padilla.
"You wanna run, seriously? Are you a cop?" a Lake County deputy asks during the arrest.
Morales-Padilla admits that he is.
"So you know better!" the deputy said.
He was hired in September 2022 and has since been fired.
"These are serious allegations, and I have been clear that there will be no tolerance for criminal behavior involving deputies," Sheriff John Mina said. "At the Orange County Sheriff's Office, we hold our deputies to the highest ethical standards whether they are on duty or off duty."
According to the Lake County deputies, Morales-Padilla admitted he made a bad choice, and now his choice cost him his badge.
