Westmont Police dash cam shows pursuit suspect crashing into a light pole and house
Westmont police have released footage from the brief chase, in which the suspect ended up hitting a house.
Shortly after midnight Wednesday, the local officer was heading west on 59th Street by Diane Main Park when an oncoming car without headlights passed him. The officer made a U-turn.
The driver sped away, ran a stop sign at 59th and Williams Street, and headed south on Williams.
The driver was seen striking a speed limit sign and knocking down a light pole, which could be heard in the video.
Then the driver hit a white house on the west side of the street, across from an apartment complex.
The officer reported the crash and asked for more officers.
He got out of his car and asked a nearby woman whether she was OK. Her answer could not be heard in the video, but the officer proceeded toward the suspect. Then the footage ended.
The driver's name has not been released. Police said last week charges were pending.
The police may disclose the suspect's name in its weekly blotter that is typically released on Mondays.
Westmont police released the video in response to Patch's public records request.
