Marion county assist Lake County with a police chase of an stolen unility truck
Early on July 8, 2022, Marion County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) deputies arrested Wade Brandon Sapp (W/M, DOB: 11/25/1996) for Grand Theft of a Motor Vehicle, Fleeing to Elude a Law Enforcement Officer, and Driving without a Valid License.
On July 7, 2022, just before midnight, MCSO received a call in reference to assisting the Lake County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) with locating a stolen vehicle. LCSO advised that a SECO Energy utility truck was stolen from a Kangaroo gas station in Lake County.
After the stolen vehicle entered Marion County, Lieutenant Timothy Andrews and Deputy Sean Cantrell located it near the intersection of I-75 and Highway 200. MCSO and LCSO deputies maintained a visual on the vehicle while other units positioned themselves to deploy stop sticks. Deputy Cantrell attempted to conduct a traffic stop, at which time Sapp, who was driving the stolen vehicle, accelerated and began to flee.
After several miles, Sergeant Todd Winkler and Deputy Cody Fenton successfully deployed stop sticks in front of the vehicle. As a result, the passenger side tires of the utility truck deflated and ultimately fell off of the rim. Sapp eventually exited I-75 onto W Highway 40 after having difficulty maintaining control of the vehicle. He finally made the decision to come to a stop at the intersection of W Highway 40 and NW 27th Avenue.
Sapp was placed under arrest and transported to the Marion County Jail, where he remains.
