On Tuesday, the Stockton Police Department released officer-worn body camera footage showing an officer shooting an armed robbery suspect last month.

Officers were responding to the report of an armed robbery around 9 p.m. in the 5700 block of Pacific Avenue on April 12.

The police department said the suspect entered a business while wearing a ski mask, took out a handgun and demanded money. He ran away with the money before officers arrived.

Shortly after, officials said there was a report of a prowler on W. Swain Avenue trying to hide under vehicles or get into residences. He was found by officers in the backyard of a home.

The suspect refused to leave the yard despite “numerous efforts and means of communication” with him, police said.

Based on the released video, the suspect extended his hands out in front of him while holding what appeared to be a black shirt and ran at officers. The police department said they believed he simulated pointing a gun.

One officer used a less-than-lethal shotgun to try to subdue the suspect, while another officer used a firearm. The suspect was shot at least once and fell to the ground.

He was taken to a hospital in critical condition. More than a month later, officials said he is now in stable condition and expected to survive.

Officers found a Glock-style replica handgun and money believed to belong to the business in the suspect's possession.

No officers or bystanders were harmed.
