Bodycam shows a serious use of force, loss of consciousness that occurred in the 27100 block of Jasper Street Southeast.
On Friday, October 11, 2024, at approximately 2:20 AM, 4 MPD members, 2 officers, and 2 sergeants from the 7th District were directed by MPD's helicopter crew to the 27 100 Block of Jasper Street Southeast where a vehicle taken in an armed carjacking had been located. The helicopter crew informed the ground that 2 occupants of the vehicle had been observed exiting the vehicle and running to the rear of the location.
They also informed the ground officers that one of the fleeing suspects discarded something in a garbage can. An assault rifle similar to the weapon reported used in the carjacking was found in a garbage can. Officers found 1 of the individuals inside the stairwell of a building on an upper floor. As the officers attempted to handcuff the individual, they resisted and tried to climb out a window. The officers were eventually able to handcuff the individual.
Involved Sergeant 1 and involved officers 12 held the individual on the ground waiting for leg shackles to help restrain the individual. The individual told officers they would stop resisting and appeared to relax, at which point the officers eased their hold on them. The individual then stopped talking and moving. When one of the officers asked if they were okay, there was no response. The individual appeared to be unconscious but breathing, and the officers requested DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services to respond.
Fire and EMS transported the individual to a local hospital where they were treated and released. The individual was subsequently arrested for armed carjacking, carrying a rifle, leaving after colliding, and resisting arrest.
