Shoplifting suspect uses e-scooter to flee from Wheat Ridge police
-----
On Aug. 25, the Wheat Ridge Police Department said officers were called about a theft at a beauty store off Youngfield Street. The 911 caller said the suspect left the store with three reusable bags worth of merchandise, but instead of getting in a car, the suspect scooted away.
Wheat Ridge police said officers searched the area before spotting a man on an e-scooter who matched the suspect’s description near West 32nd Avenue and Ward Road.
“Our officer activated lights and sirens to get the suspect to stop, but he kept on scootin,” Wheat Ridge police said.
Eventually, after a short chase by an officer on foot, police said the suspect ditched the scooter and officers were able to take him into custody.
According to Wheat Ridge police, the suspect reportedly had 19 perfume bottles worth $2,595. Police also found suspected methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. The man had three active warrants, as well, two out of Lakewood for failure to appear and shoplifting and one out of Denver for shoplifting.
