K9 Carrier captures man fleeing from Marion police after running a stop sign
A man is facing charges after he drove through a stop sign and fled Marion County Sheriff’s deputies.
Carlos Gomez Vaquez, 28, is behind bars for fleeing law enforcement, resisting arrest, driving without a valid license, possession of cocaine, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
On February 13, 2024, an MCSO deputy saw a car fail to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of Southeast 125th Terrace Road and Northeast 1st Street Road in Silver Springs.
The deputy tried to conduct a traffic stop on the car, but the driver, Gomez Vaquez, refused.
Gomez Vaquez fled for a short distance, but eventually stopped at a home on Southeast 128th Avenue. He then drove into the backyard of the house and fled on foot.
The MCSO Aviation Unit found a heat signature that was determined to be Gomez Vaquez hiding in an area of thick woods, and they sent the K-9 unit to the suspect’s location.
After over an hour of searching the woods, a K-9 named Carrier found Gomez Vaquez.
He was taken into custody, and it was later discovered that he had cocaine and drug paraphernalia, and he did not have a valid driver’s license.
