A man is in custody after a shooting involving Phoenix police early Thursday morning on the city's west side.

Police say it took place near 91st Avenue and Lower Buckeye Road.

Phoenix police provided an update on the situation Thursday morning. You can watch the update in the player below.

Police say around 3:15 a.m. Thursday, officers in the area found a truck in the roadway with the driver passed out.

As officers surrounded the vehicle, they learned the truck had been reported as stolen.

The driver woke up and attempted to flee while surrounded, but couldn't get away in the truck.

He then fled on foot. While fleeing, police saw the suspect allegedly had a handgun, and he pointed it at officers.

Police say non-lethal rounds were used on the suspect as he fled into a nearby neighbor, but they did not stop the suspect.

More officers came to the area as a manhunt ensued.

When they found the man again, that's when police say the shooting involving officers occurred.

No one was hurt in the incident.

The man, identified as 34-year-old Uriel Lozada, was taken into custody near a home about an hour after the incident started.
