LASD deputies shoots through the windshield at armed suspect who pulled out a gun during foot chase
A man was taken to the hospital with a gunshot wound during a foot pursuit with Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department deputies in East Los Angeles Monday afternoon.
Authorities said they were called to the area near the 300 block of Atlantic Boulevard at around 1:15 p.m. after receiving reports of a man with a gun.
"Deputies determined an armed robbery had occurred at the location," said a statement from LASD.
Upon locating the suspect a short distance away, he ran from them, producing a gun at some point during the chase.
It was then that the shooting occurred, at around 2:30 p.m. He was hit by gunfire from one of the deputies, near S. Atlantic Boulevard and E. 4th Street.
The suspect, who remains unidentified, was taken to a nearby hospital and is said to be in stable condition.
No deputies were injured.
With SkyCal over the scene, one of the front windshields of an LASD cruisers could be seen with multiple bullet holes. A gun still inside of its holster could also be seen on the sidewalk. Though unconfirmed, investigators say that the suspect never opened fire, meaning that one of the deputies must have fired shots from inside of the vehicle, through the windshield.
