Colorado Springs police release body cam footage from December shooting incident involving minors
Police in Colorado Springs released body camera footage on Friday from a December officer-involved shooting involving a group of minors on the east side of Colorado Springs.
According to the Colorado Springs Police Department, officers and deputies with the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office were trying to locate a suspected stolen vehicle that may have been used in violent crimes. Authorities were in the 5900 block of Constitution Avenue at about 4 a.m. working to locate the vehicle. The area is on the east side of Colorado Springs, just east of Powers.
Police said one of the vehicle’s passengers, a 16-year-old boy, exited the vehicle once it was force-stopped in possession of a handgun, and at least one CSPD officer fired at least one round that struck the suspect. He was transported to the hospital for treatment.
Two other teenagers were also in the vehicle and were uninjured. According to officials, all three suspects have been arrested on multiple felony charges, including three counts of Attempted Murder, two counts of Attempted Armed Robbery, Conspiracy, Motor Vehicle Theft, and Assault on a Peace Officer. Officials said these charges are related to both the officer-involved incident and the alleged violent crimes leading up to it.
Because the suspects are minors, officials said further information regarding their identities, specifics of the crimes charged, or medical status will not be released.
