Atlanta officers quickly arrest a thief by tracking the tablet that he stole from a delivery truck
On Monday, May 22, 2023, at around 11:35 a.m., a Zone 5 Atlanta police officer was dispatched to 148 Andrew Young International Blvd NE regarding a theft from vehicle. Upon arrival, the officer met and spoke with the victim, who stated he was making a delivery at the location. Upon returning to his delivery truck, he noticed his work tablet was missing.
After calling 911, the victim met with onsite security who was able to review video surveillance and give him a description of the suspect who was believed to have left the location on foot. This information along with a photo of the suspect was provided to the officer.
He immediately began canvassing the area and used technology to track the suspects’ movements to the area of Peachtree Center Ave and John Portman Blvd.
Around 12:06 p.m., the officer spotted a male matching the description of the suspect and was able to detain him without incident. Inside the suspect’s bookbag, the officer was able to recover a tablet, which was later confirmed to be the victim’s work tablet.
The suspect was identified as 42-year-old Tony Clark. He was subsequently arrested and charged with Entering Auto and Theft by Taking. He was transported to the Fulton County Jail and taken into their custody without incident. The officer was able to return the victim’s tablet.
