Armed Convicted Felon riding Scooter is arrested by Atlanta officers
On 8/2/22, around 4:45 P.M., officers observed a male illegally riding a motorized scooter on the sidewalk. The officers attempted a traffic stop but the male refused to stop. The officers gave several loud verbal commands for the male to stop.
Instead, the male discarded the scooter and attempted to flee from officers on foot. Officers engaged in a foot pursuit following closely behind the male suspect. They observed the suspect remove a firearm from his waistband and toss it over a fence. The suspect was eventually caught and was successfully detained. Officers located and recovered the firearm that the suspect attempted to discard.
The firearm was confirmed to be reported stolen by the Greenville Police Department.
The suspect was arrested and identified as, Michael Cortez Kirkland. He is a convicted felon with 16 arrest cycles. He was charged with possession of marijuana less than an oz, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, theft by receiving stolen gun, failure to yield while entering the roadway, warrant arrest (out of Cobb County).
Mr. Kirkland also had a Failure to appear warrant out of Fulton County. We’d like to take the time to commend Zone 5 officers for their outstanding proactive enforcement efforts and for removing another repeat criminal with a gun from our streets. Job well done!
