Aerial video shows police pursue stolen vehicle, make arrest in Berkley neighborhood
Video recorded by a Massachusetts State Police helicopter shows officers pursue a vehicle and apprehend the people who were inside after they fled the vehicle when they became trapped in a residential area of Berkley.
State police officials said that shortly before 3 p.m. Wednesday, troopers attempted to stop a stolen vehicle related to an earlier notification.
The stolen vehicle fled the initial stop but was spotted merging onto Route 79 north quickly afterward. Troopers pursued the vehicle for a short time but disengaged when the vehicle exited the highway and began fleeing down local roadways, according to state police.
An MSP Air Wing Unit flight crew responded to provide support and was able to find the stolen vehicle and track it on Route 24 north.
Video from that MSP Air Wing Unit flight shows the stolen vehicle take Exit 11 on Route 24 north, which is the exit for Padelford Street in Berkley.
The stolen vehicle then wound up turning onto Deerfield Drive, a loop subdivision in Berkley, and Berkley police officers were able to trap the vehicle inside.
The MSP helicopter video then shows three people exit the stolen vehicle and run into a wooded area off Deerfield Drive. State police said those three people were apprehended within a few minutes.
State police troopers wound up making two arrests: 19-year-old Kobe West and 21-year-old Alexia Springer, both of Fall River.
West was charged with receiving a stolen motor vehicle, operating a motor vehicle with a revoked driver's license, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, failure to stop for police, marked lanes violation and speeding. State police said West was also wanted on five outstanding warrants for his arrest.
Springer was charged with receiving a motor vehicle, according to state police.
