Bodycam shows father being arrested after he ran away from a crash that killed his daughter
By: A man is in jail after police say he ran away from the scene of a crash that killed his 15-year-old daughter and injured three other members of his family.
Bixby Police say the deadly crash happened Thursday night, around 9:20 p.m.
Officers responded to a single vehicle rollover near East 171st and South 90th.
When they arrived, officers found a young girl ejected from the vehicle. Later developments identified her as 15-year-old Shelby Binney. The driver was identified as her father, Elliott Binney.
Shelby was taken to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Shelby's mother and two siblings were taken to the hospital with injuries.
Police say the driver, Elliott Binney, ran away on foot shortly after the collision. He was later arrested in Checotah.
According to the arrest and booking report, Shelby's mother said she and Elliott Binney were arguing before the crash.
An unsealed bottle of vodka was found at the scene and Binney admitted to drinking a gulp of it, police records say. It also says it was raining and Binney passed two other vehicles in a no passing zone just before the crash.
Binney said he hit an "oil spot," police records say.
Binney was taken to a Tulsa hospital before being booked into Tulsa County Jail on charges of first degree manslaughter, leaving the scene of a deadly crash and passing in a no passing zone.
Police are still investigating the cause of this accident.
