Atlanta air unit tracks suspect in a stolen vehicle, then he tried to escape in another vehicle
On March 12, 2024, APD Officers with the Auto Crimes Enforcement Unit were on patrol around Metropolitan Pkwy and Fair St, when they were notified that a black Dodge Charger was stolen after being left running.
The owner of the vehicle was able to live track it and that location was given to both the Air Unit and the Auto Crimes Unit. An A.C.E. unit was in the area and attempted to pull over the vehicle, but the suspect refused to stop.
The Air Unit located the black Dodge Charger, giving officers its location and direction of travel. The vehicle eventually came to a stop, and the suspect jumped out and jumped over a fence, running into an apartment building.
After the suspect thought the coast was clear, he was seen running out the back of the building and getting into the back seat of a white vehicle. The Air Unit was given this information and quickly located the vehicle, giving its location. A.C.E. Officers were able to conduct a traffic stop where they located the suspect in the back seat.
The suspect was identified as 17-year-old Jerious Simpson. Mr. Simpson was charged with Theft by Receiving and Fleeing/Eluding Police Officers.
Mr. Simpson also had an existing warrant. He was transported to the Fulton County Jail.
