Houston police are investigating the fatal shooting (suicide) of a man at 12640 Hempstead Road about 2:25 p.m. on Monday (Dec. 26).
The identity of the male is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Special Investigations Unit Sergeant M. Ynosencio and Detectives N. Alvarado, V. Praxedes and O. Flores reported:
Officers were dispatched to a call about a male threatening to hurt himself and his mother inside a trailer home at the above address. Officers arrived and attempted to contact the male, and he refused to come outside to speak to officers. Family members told officers the male had access to a gun inside the trailer.
After receiving information on the male's identity, officers learned the male was wanted for an outstanding felony warrant. The male then suddenly walked outside toward the back of the trailer, where he shot himself. Paramedics transported the male to Memorial Hermann Greater Heights Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.
No officers discharged a weapon or were injured. As is customary when an individual dies in the presence of officers, the incident is being investigated by the HPD Special Investigations Unit.
