Body cam video shows KCSO deputy opening fire on man aiming gun at deputies
The Kern County Sheriff’s Office has released body-camera video of a deputy-involved shooting on Casa Loma Drive on April 8 where a man is seen aiming a gun at deputies.
The Kern County Sheriff's Office said on Saturday, April 8, at around 9:50 p.m., deputies were called to the 300 block of Casa Loma Drive for a report of a person shooting into an empty building.
In the video released by KCSO, a 911 call can be heard made by a family member.
KCSO said when deputies arrived, the suspect, identified as 43-year-old Juan Jose Campos, was no longer outside the main home.
Deputies did talk to one of the victims and confirmed evidence of a shooting, including a window that was shattered by gunfire and a bullet fragment found in a dresser near the window.
KCSO said after about ten minutes of searching the property and making multiple announcements, deputies found Campos, crouched behind a bed, pointing his gun at deputies.
A deputy-involved shooting happened.
Deputies rendered medical aid until Kern County Fire and Hall Ambulance personnel arrived on the scene and took Campos to a local hospital for his injuries.
Campos was arrested on numerous charges including three counts of attempted murder, two counts of assault with a firearm, assault on a peace officer with a firearm, and multiple other felony charges.
An empty casing was found inside the chamber of the gun at the time it was seized by deputies, according to KCSO.
