Dash cam footage shows trooper intercept wrong-way driver on Route 8
State police released dash cam footage of a trooper intercepting a wrong-way driver on Route 8 in Waterbury.
Authorities said it happened around 1:15 a.m. Tuesday morning.
State Police Troop L notified Troop A of a driver going the wrong way on Route 8 north near Exit 36. The driver was traveling the wrong way in the left lane.
A trooper who was working at a nearby highway construction project responded.
The wrong-way driver collided with the front end of the state police cruiser.
“During their interactions, the elderly male operator of the Toyota Prius reported no injuries, but appeared disoriented and was transported to an area hospital for a medical evaluation,” state police said.
The driver was issued an infraction for driving the wrong way on a divided highway, authorities said.
The trooper was not hurt.
