A police chase ended unexpectedly last year. According to Idaho State Police (ISP) Public Information Officer Aaron Snell, the chase happened on Jan. 1, 2024, but police could not release the information until it was adjudicated.

KTVB previously reported the chase started when ISP Trooper Brennan approached the SUV after it had been idled at a gas station for over an hour. The driver, Luke Gihle from Boise, fled and drove at speeds up to 115 mph. He ignored road closure signs and drove into an excavated pit.

"Public safety is always our top priority. Fortunately, no one was seriously injured during the pursuit. The surprise came from the non-traditional PIT maneuver—we don't usually use excavated pits in construction zones to do the job. I'm just grateful everyone walked away safely from this incident," said Brennan.

Police found glass pipes, THC wax and brass knuckles during a search. Gihle was charged with felony fleeing and eluding a peace officer, driving under the influence, resisting and obstructing officers and possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia. He was convicted and sentenced to seven years in prison.
