Michigan State Police trooper, victim’s dog save man after falling through ice
A Michigan State Police (MSP) trooper took part in a daring rescue on Thursday, saving a man and his dog.
Body camera footage caught MSP Officer Kameron Bennetts working with Ruby, the victim’s dog, to rescue the man.
The man, a 65-year-old Traverse City resident, fell through the ice on Arbutus Lake in East Bay Township. Bystanders quickly called 911 after seeing him fall.
Bennetts arrived on the scene and grabbed the rescue disc from his vehicle. Sitting next to the victim was his dog, Ruby.
Thinking quickly, the trooper called Ruby over. Ruby ran to the trooper, who quickly attached the rescue disc to the dog’s collar.
The pooch then ran back to her owner, which allowed the man to take the disc and tread water.
Firefighters assisted Bennetts in pulling the man to safety. He was taken to the hospital and later released.
