Surveillance video shows moment Napa County deputy shoots 18-year-old in Vallejo during foot chase
The new footage shows Coleman shooting 18-year-old Demarea Vaughn Rogers III from behind as the teen ran away and tried to put his weapons away.
During the chase, which lasted less than 30 seconds, Coleman repeatedly asked Rogers to raise his hands and drop his weapons. Rogers dropped a gun in a driveway but continued to run from Coleman.
“Drop the gun, drop the gun,” Coleman yells. “Drop the gun or I’ll shoot you.”
Seconds later, Rogers threw his second gun into another yard, about the same time Coleman fired his Glock 17 pistol. Neighbors standing on the street with their dog appeared to witness the entire incident, the video shows.
Videos released last week did not include footage of the shooting because Coleman's body camera battery “ran out of charge,” according to Napa Sheriff's Capt. Brian Kenner. Instead, they captured Coleman, who gave Rogers medical aid in the minutes after Coleman shot him. The revelations also show that police officers arrested and questioned a second man, 18-year-old Jozan Amarion Hill.
