Suspect arrested after carjacking, standoff in Daytona Beach
A carjacking subject was tracked down after he was found attempting to hide in a warehouse, according to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies said the carjacking was reported around 8:23 a.m. at a BP gas station at 1094 Derbyshire Road in Daytona Beach.
The victim, who was pumping gas at the time of the robbery, told deputies the suspect was armed with a handgun when he approached, demanding his money and car keys, saying “keep pumping the gas, or I will shoot you.”
According to a news release, the suspect drove off in a silver Toyota Corolla heading south on Derbyshire.
Deputies said they were able to locate video surveillance footage of the incident and a clear view of the suspect, later identified as 42-year-old Anthony Galloway.
The stolen vehicle was found unoccupied outside an apartment complex on Brentwood Drive, where the suspect ran into an apartment building before jumping out of a back second-story window, according to the release.
Deputies said witnesses reported seeing Galloway run into a warehouse in the area of 504 Mason Ave., along railroad tracks. Railroad officials were able to stop all trains and traffic was blocked in the area while deputies and Daytona Beach police surrounded the facility.
According to the release, a video feed from inside the building provided a live view of what the suspect was doing.
After almost an hour of trying to convince Galloway to surrender, SWAT units pried open a locked door and arrested him around 10:50 a.m., deputies said.
Galloway was transported to a local hospital for evaluation and treatment of cuts that were believed to be “sustained during the break-in and/or jump from the nearby apartment,” according to the release.
Once released from the hospital, he will be transported to the Volusia County Branch Jail, deputies said.
The list of charges that Galloway will face have not been finalized, according to the release.
