Mesa police release body cam of Michael Medina, who was running away, suddenly collapses and died
A 33-year-old man wanted for several criminal charges died after falling during a chase involving Mesa officers, police said.
The Mesa Police Department is investigating the death of Michael Medina, 33, a suspect who was wanted on charges that included burglary, criminal trespass and resisting arrest.
Police had been looking for Medina since June 22 and found him July 17 in a vehicle and made a traffic stop at 1300 S. Mesa Drive, authorities said.
“Medina ran from the vehicle, and officers gave chase,” police said in a release. “One officer caught up and made contact with Medina, causing him to fall forward, where he became unconscious and unresponsive after being taken into custody.”
Officers attempted life-saving measures until Mesa Fire and Medical arrived. Medina was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
