Deputies use drone to locate missing man
Using drone technology, Outagamie County deputies located a missing man Thursday evening.
Outagamie County sheriff's officials, with the family's permission, released video of the drone search and rescue.
Officials responded to a report of a missing 83-year-old man who had been missing for eight hours.
While a typical search on foot was conducted, deputies also deployed a drone to search for the man. Using the drone's thermal camera, deputies located the man lying in a field.
In the drone video provided by the Outagamie County Sheriff's Office, viewers can see the drone sweeping a wide area with its camera.
Responding to the man's body heat, the camera then zooms in on the man lying face-first in a remote area.
In the second video, first responders and deputies arrive at the scene and provide care to the man while an ambulance was on its way.
Without the drone, it's unlikely the man would have been found before nightfall, according to the sheriff's office. Sgt. Nathan Borman says the drone most likely saved the man's life.
