Man who shined a laser at a police helicopter in Vallejo County is arrested
A California Highway Patrol helicopter above Vallejo was struck with a laser several times early Wednesday morning while assisting in an unrelated call, according to authorities. The CHP H-30 crew can be heard informing the Vallejo Police Department, “We’re getting lased pretty good,” in a video shared of the incident.
The flight crew followed up on the initial report and told Vallejo police that the blue laser was coming from a truck in front of a residence. Officers on the ground responded to the CHP’s report and were able to find where the laser was being emitted from.
A suspect was located and arrested, CHP said. Police did not identify the suspect accused of shining the laser or release any further information about the incident.
In addition to being dangerous for the flight crew, shining a laser at an aircraft is a felony and can be prosecuted at the state and federal level, according to the CHP.
