The Salt Lake City Police Department released body-worn camera footage after shooting and killing an arson suspect.
Around 11:30 p.m. on Jan. 2, Utah County law enforcement located Tanner Cottrell, 27, in a stolen F-350 in Orem. Cottrell was wanted in connection to an arson that took place the day before near 2650 East 2100 South in Salt Lake.
An officer in the area tried to pull Cottrell over but said he refused to stop.
Cottrell's location was shared with additional police agencies, and several officers joined the pursuit.
A press release states officers heard gunfire coming from Cottrell's vehicle. In response, "tactical armored vehicles were requested to enhance officer and community safety."
The pursuit extended through Salt Lake City, into North Salt Lake, and then back into Salt Lake City.
Officers reportedly used spike strips, damaging the truck's tires, but Cottrell kept driving.
About an hour later, the truck crashed near 12400 South Redwood Road in Riverton. The impact caused the truck to flip and land on its roof.
An officer-involved critical incident ensued, and Cottrell died at the scene.
