The Kern County Sheriff’s Office released video footage from a rescue mission after a boat capsized and left two people in distress in the waters of Lake Isabella last year.

The video released shows KCSO Park Rangers responding to the Camp 9 area where a vessel overturned. As KCSO’s rescue boat approaches the vessel, two people could be seen clinging on to the small vessel, fighting to stay afloat.

Rescue crews reeled the man and woman out of the water with the help of a rescue can. The woman was able to use her cell phone to call for help and miraculously managed to keep the phone from getting wet.

The video shows her handing the phone over to deputies as she gets pulled onto the rescue boat. One of the two people rescued was wearing waders during the incident, which made it difficult to move and increased the risk of drowning.
