A Central Iowa man is facing a number of felony charges in Sioux City after a police chase in the Morningside area early Wednesday morning.
Lennox Vanvacter is charged with 1st-degree theft, felony eluding, assault on a police officer, meth possession with intent to deliver, driving with a suspended or revoked license and criminal mischief.
In court documents, an officer says he tried to pull Vanvacter over just after 2 a.m. on Morningside Avenue, but he drove off at speeds of nearly 80 miles per hour through residential areas. Eventually, he drove his vehicle into and through Latham Park, before getting it stuck on a fence while trying to leave. During that chase, he hit and disabled a police car.
In addition to meth in his vehicle, police also found several credit cards with different names on them and are now checking to see if they were stolen.
