Traffic Stop leads to Drug Bust and Rifle Recovered
On 9/6/22, Zone 6 officers conducted a traffic stop at the location of Gartrell St SE and Fitzgerald St SE on a black Nissan Pathfinder for having a cracked windshield. Upon the stop, officers identified themselves to the driver and explained the reason for the stop.
The driver, later to be identified as Mr. Detavious Stephens, advised the officer he did not have his driver’s license with him. Upon further investigation, it was revealed Mr. Stephen’s driver’s license was suspended by the State of Georgia.
Mr. Stephens was placed in custody. Upon searching Mr. Stephen’s vehicle incident to the arrest, officers recovered 56 grams of marijuana, 11.6 grams of crystal methamphetamine, and a BF-15 firearm belonging to Mr. Stephens’.
Officers impounded the Nissan Pathfinder Mr. Stephens was driving. Mr. Stephen was arrested for Driving while his license is suspended, Possession of Marijuana with intent to distribute, Possession of Methamphetamine with intent to distribute, and Possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. Mr. Stephens was transported to Fulton County Jail without incident.
What started out as a traffic stop on a minor equipment violation led to a significant arrest resulting in illegal narcotics and another gun being taken off the street. We’d like to thank our Zone 6 officers for their excellence and daily contributions to keeping their communities safe.
