Toledo, OH - Police officers pursued a suspect in a vehicle through east Toledo Wednesday afternoon, in an incident that resulted in an arrest.

According to Toledo police, the chase began when a suspect in a vehicle fled Metroparks park rangers around 1:15 p.m. after rangers attempted a traffic stop in east Toledo. Rangers called for mutual aid in the area of Woodville and Clark streets.

Toledo police pursued the suspect, who is accused of ramming two patrol vehicles in the parking lot of Oakdale School. The two vehicles were taken out of service due to the damage.

According to court documents, the chase was conducted at a "high rate of speed" and the suspect driver nearly had a collision with a school bus during the pursuit.

Police deployed stop sticks, which eventually immobilized the suspect vehicle.

The suspect allegedly fled police on foot and was ultimately apprehended in the Weiler Homes.

According to a police report, a police wagon was involved in what authorities described as a minor collision with a civilian vehicle during the pursuit.

At least nine TPD vehicles were at Artis Place and Fassett Street near the Weiler Homes at the time of the incident.

Police ultimately arrested Tyler Wittel, who was charged with fifth-degree felony vandalism for allegedly damaging police vehicles and third-degree felony failure to comply for allegedly fleeing officers.

Wittel was arraigned in Toledo Municipal Court Thursday morning on a $50,000 bond.
