Suspect caught in swamp after fleeing traffic stop, crashing into ditch
A suspect in Flagler County was pulled from a swamp after fleeing from deputies and crashing into a ditch.
According to the Flagler County Sheriff's Office, deputies attempted to pull 23-year-old Alunzo Peoples over for a suspended license on West State Road 100 near U.S. 1 early Thursday morning.
Peoples fled and didn't stop until his tires were damaged by a deputy deploying stop sticks.
The vehicle crashed into a ditch on County Road 304, and Peoples abandoned the vehicle, running away on foot.
A police helicopter located Peoples' heat signature in a body of water 200 yards from the wrecked vehicle. An airboat was sent into the swamp to retrieve him.
Peoples faces charges of fleeing and eluding, as well as cocaine possession.
