A Sanford man remained jailed on $40,000 bond Monday, accused of hitting his girlfriend in the head with a fishing pole and pointing a gun at her, the Volusia Sheriff's Office said.

Henry Purdue was charged with battery with a deadly weapon, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and grand theft of a firearm.

According to the sheriff's office, deputies responded to the incident at a Collins Road home in Osteen Saturday.

The victim reported that Purdue, her boyfriend, hit her, pointed a gun at her, and struck her in the head with the reel end of a fishing pole, the social media post states.

The woman had a cut to her head and was treated at the scene, deputies said.

Purdue was not at the home when deputies arrived, but a K-9 handler and a police dog tracked him down. He was found hiding in a tree, the sheriff's office said.
