12-year-old arrested for shining a green laser at a Michigan State Police helicopter
A 12-year-old boy from Dearborn was arrested after pointing a green laser pointer at a Michigan State Police helicopter in Dearborn.
Michigan State Police (MSP) posted a video of the boy and another juvenile in Dearborn pointing the laser at the helicopter as it flew overhead.
“Hey, we’re getting lasered on Calhoun Street, near Morrow,” one person said in the video.
In the footage, the two juveniles can be seen near a house standing together. The video is intermittently blinded by the laser pointer. Soon after, police arrived, arrested the 12-year-old boy, and confiscated the laser pointer.
The video mentioned that the boy was later released to his parents, and a report was forwarded to the prosecutor’s office for review.
Online, MSP emphasized that in Michigan, as well as federally, it is against the law to point a laser at an aircraft.
